our story

An old house, restored with quiet hands.

We bought Casa da Ribeira in 2018. The schist walls belonged to the grandparents' time; the roof was newer. It took three years to bring light back without taking the story away.

Here, the stone stayed.

The kitchen keeps its original schist wall. The beams are the same. The air conditioning, heating and internet are new — we chose what to replace and what to leave as it always was.

Each room has its own name. The beds are new, the sheets are linen, and the night silence is almost outrageous in how complete it is.

Alvares lives between the bridge, the river and the N2.

A few metres from the house there is river water, lawn, playground, bar and restaurant. For the rest, the village gives you the essentials — and the mountains do the rest.

The village jewel is right at the door: fresh water, stone bridge, lawn, playground, bar and restaurant for a whole slow day.

PR2 — Sinhel Trail

A circular route of about 6 km, starting at the river beach. It passes the old wool factory and the olive oil press.

N2 National Road

The road that crosses Portugal passes through Alvares. A good excuse for short drives through the mountains and neighbouring villages.

Pedro Cruz Museum

A nearby cultural stop to add to the route when you feel like swapping the swim for a quieter discovery.

Fora D'Horas

A café/snack-bar in Alvares for meals, coffee and quick essentials without leaving the village.

Poço de Amiosinho is a quiet natural pool and river beach in Amiosinho, in the parish of Alvares. It is known for clear, refreshing waters, ideal for summer, in a genuine natural setting.
